About Us

The Peer Listening Initiative recognizes the unique challenges and stressors that medical students may face throughout their academic journey. From rigorous coursework to demanding clinical rotations, it is natural to experience moments of uncertainty, stress, or simply the need to talk to someone who understands.

With the Peer Listening Initiative, we aim to create a supportive and empathetic environment where students can promptly connect with their peers and receive confidential, non-judgmental listening and support. Whether you're grappling with academic pressures, personal challenges, or simply seeking someone to talk to, our trained Peer Listeners are here to lend an empathetic ear and provide a safe space for open dialogue.

We understand that one of the many hurdles encountered when reaching out for support is the fear of documentation. With the Peer Listening Initiative, students can participate anonymously, ensuring complete privacy and confidentiality. No recordings or personal information will be documented, allowing you to speak openly and honestly without the worry of being identified or documented. Our goal is to provide immediate support when you need it most.

Call for Action

This program is designed to support everyone, but we want to particularly reach out to those who may not typically utilize the wellness center and navigate tough times alone. Whether it's moments of skipping meals, struggling to sleep, or feeling anxious about the future, many of us have weathered these storms solo. We've sailed through the rough seas and made it to the other side, but it's important to recognize that we don't have to face these challenges alone.

Let's kick off a new initiative for next term. As medical students, we prioritize everything—from studying diligently to achieve good grades,  conducting research to stay competitive, to shadowing to gain insights into our future careers. It's time to redirect some of that energy back to ourselves.

The Peer Listening Initiative is here for you to carve out that time and give yourself a moment. You deserve it. There are times when even our closest friends may not fully grasp what we're going through, and in those moments, having someone who simply listens can make all the difference. That's where your Stritch Peer Listeners come in.

Remember, it's okay not to have it all together all the time. Take advantage of this resource when you need it. You deserve moments of self-care and support.
